I hang out mostly on the south end of the beach. Last week I saw 2 guys crabbing from the Veterans' Pier in Murrells Inlet. That's the pier next to Capt. Dick's. They had 5 lines out and were hauling in a lot of blue crabs. They said they had to turn a lot of them back because they did not make the 5" requirement, but they still had a lot of "keepers" in their buckets.
If you get down this way, try Garden City. I call this "Garden City's Best Kept Secret" since a lot of people don't know about it.
Take17 Business S toward Garden City Beach. You'll see 2 overhead signs - one says Garden City Connector, and the other says Pine Ave. - both signs point left. Turn left here and go about half a mile to the dead-end at Elizabeth. The park is straight ahead at the dead end. Pull in..you can park free inside the park.
You'll see swings, play area, outdoor barbecue stands, tables, and a gazebo:

Just past this point you'll see a nice pier:

At the end of the pier is a shelter:

And to the left you'll see some steps. You can crab from the shelter, the steps, or along the pier.

I seldom see people out there. I took these pictures today, and except for one family leaving the play area, no one was there.
I've seen people pulling in lots of crabs here, and I'm always surprised it is still almost undiscovered.
