We are staying in N. Myrtle Beach and are looking for the closest piers to fish off. We will be there from April 4 - 10. Thanks!

Hi, Chrissy! Welcome to our message board. You can find a list of our area piers (plus information) here:
http://www.funbeaches.com/piers.html

The Apache Pier or Cherry Grove Pier would be the closest to you in North Myrtle Beach.

Sharks, sharks everywhere. My nephew was fishing there Monday and caught a 7ft sand shark by accident. Of course, he let it go, but was shocked! He said he saw loads of sharks by the pier.

There's a reason why it's against the law to "engage in any aquatic activity whatsoever within 150 feet of any pier."

Wow, that is some scary stuff.

Can I ask a really stupid question? Do you actually see the fins at the top of the water or is that just in movie land? Which pier was this?

Yes, and you'll hear really ominous music all around you - bump-bum, bump-bum, bump-bump-bump-bump-bump-bump-bump . . .

Actually, that's not a stupid question at all. I'm also wondering about that. I've never seen sharks in the wild, but I do know that the ones in the tunnel at Ripley's Aquarium swim competely underwater so you wouldn't see their dorsal fin sticking out. I've heard that when dolphins come up to breathe people sometimes mistake them for sharks because of the fin.

Fished from the surf at 1 evening at Cherry Grove. Caught a 5 lb black drum, a decent Spot, and shark after shark after shark. :BandHead:

That's what we always use. The reason I ask is because I actually wouldn't mind catching a bunch of sharks, lol.

Thanks for the response.

Found this on the DNR website:

"H.3572 Shark Catch Limits ** Effective date 06/02/09** Act No. 47

This act reduces the daily personal catch limit on Atlantic sharpnose sharks from two to the Federal daily personal limit of one Atlantic sharpnose shark. This act also repeals the allowance to harvest 1 bonnethead shark. This change will not affect anglers because the bonnethead bag limit will default to the federal law which allows a daily personal catch of one bonnethead, just as South Carolina's current law allows. The passage of this act brings South Carolina into compliance with the recently finalized Atlantic States Marine Fishery Commission's (ASMFC) Shark Fishery Management Plan (FMP). This plan mirrors most federal shark fishery management regulations, making them applicable in state waters. As part of the ASMFC, South Carolina is obligated to adopt the requirements of the plan or potentially be found "out of compliance." If the state is found out of compliance, the state's entire shark fishery could be closed by the Secretary of Commerce."
