What's going at Ocean Lakes lately? Are they fairly full? Anyone know of facility activities in October. Thinking about going next week. Just curious if anyone knows anything? Thanks

It's pretty easy to get a site after Labor Day. Check out their website:

http://www.oceanlakes.com

and their new online reservation feature, which is fantastic! You can reserve by area or by specific site. It will tell you what sites are open in the area you want to be in. You can also check out activities on the website. I think the planned children's activities discontinue after Labor Day but there is still a lot going on and some themed events also.

Enjoy! I'm envious! We don't go to OL again until the end of June 2009.

Did you use the new online reservation system, or call, or just show up?

The online reservation works perfectly! I'm just amazed that this place is so packed in October...plus a ton of kids having a blast.

The bingo last night wasn't very fruitful for us though but having a blast.

Sorry to tease you guys but we have been waiting 13 months for a vacation and finally here.

Had lunch at Prossers yesterday...found a new healthy grocery store called Lowes Foods (fantastic place on 544 near the overpass).

I go to the Lowe's Food over here in Murrell's Inlet and I love it!I have been in 5 or 6 stores down here and it is by far my favorite.

Are they connected with the Lowes home improvement store?

(Lowes food is great as we had to find natural beef as the Dr. scared us about regular beef how bad it is - with the cows being fed antibiotics - said the nation is heading for real trouble down the road fighting disease thanks the US regular beef source).

Wish we had a Lowes food in Ga!

Patrish had answered that in another thread. Lowes Food and Lowe's Home Improvement (note the apostrophe) are totally different companies.

Wonder if the grocery store at OL has fresh meats?

I don't remember what they have there in the way of fresh things. I know they do carry some fresh produce, and they carry hot dogs and lunch meat and cheese. However, there are a number of grocery stores nearby that do carry fresh meat. I would think (being a former owner of a MUCH smaller campground) that fresh meat would not be sold quickly enough to justify carrying it, or they would have to charge an exorbitant amount to make up for what is lost in spoilage.

We'll be there June 24 to July 1, so I can check it out and let you know as long as you don't need an answer before then.

Sandy's Mart is great...no fresh meat but everything else one could imagine.

The campground was completely full Fri and Sat night (had to leave Sunday morning). They just do everything right at Ocean Lakes.

General note: The bikers were behaved, wearing helmets and having fun. Prossers let us down a bit though, the information centers are not true info centers (as noted in another post elsewhere), Fresh Market is fantastic to avoid the Mal-Mart masses. Beach was clean, water warm enough to swim other than undertow strong this week. We had a wonderful time and glad to be home to honor our Veterans!

Well that vacation has already worn off...ready to hit Ocean Lakes again already. I got up this morning and visualizing attending church at the rec center then off to the site in the golf cart, then to the beach, then to Prossers for lunch (wonder if they are even open on Sunday (doesn't matter as this is all in my mind anyway)).

Then to Capt Dicks for some afternoon fishing. Then back to Ocean Lakes for dinner, golf cart riding and visiting with fellow campers. Then to bed for an exciting upcoming Monday.

Those that are there deserve some fun but at least I can pretend to in there with um.

I'll try to post daily trip reports while we're there the end of next week and the beginning of the week after.

We're going to pay (don't know the fee yet) for the onsite WiFi rather than using the free WiFi at the snack bar area. There's also free dial-up at the campsite but egad, I'd go crazy waiting for that!! It's much more convenient and we can just keep the laptop opened up all the time when we're in the motor home.
