"Nights of a Thousand Candles" is an enchanting annual event that has become area favorite, held at Brookgreen Gardens for several weekends in December. Wally and I were there on December 18, and as always, it set the mood for our Christmas spirit. 35,000 candles, plus lights and decorations adorn the moss-covered oaks and pathways of Brookgreen Gardens. Crews begin preparation in October by stringing lights which will stay up until the end of January. Christmas carolers, actors, entertainment and Southern food specialties are offered throughout the event.
